Going fishing for a while...

We have left the blog quite quiet for a while, and that is because we have been working with Aaron Brethorst on the Cocoa Controls web site ... but this is not all: we have started another exciting project called VS Nomad (we will make Visual Studio the best environment for cross-platform mobile dev)

So all in all, this means we can’t spend quite enough time to maintain the shop here so we will close it in the next few days. If you are already a mobile[foo] customer, be reassured you can still access our support pages.

We don’t see this as a definitive closure, but we will be away for a few months, and just wanted to let you know!

Does this mean that you will no longer be developing the SDK for iSQL? Will I still be able to buy it - it's on our list to purchase for development!!

Hi,

That's correct - we're not planning on developing any more features, at least for the moment, so we can concentrate on our other projects as Marine mentions above.

From tomorrow, we'll be removing them from sale on the website, so if you want to grab a copy, now's the time :-). (We'll still continue to support existing customers after we close the shop, of course.)

Cheers,
Rob

Good - because I don't feel the need to buy the source currently so I might want to in the future - have purchased the binary for now mind, plus if I ever need to I'm only down in Harlow about 30 miles from Cambridge. :P

Will you be retaining compatibility for future iOS versions or should this just work regardless unless they change API's for handling web calls that you use for your WebService...

Will this WebService be able to support high load?

Hi,

It should continue to work on new versions of iOS - we don't do anything unsupportable by Apple at the moment, so it should just continue working. We won't (for the moment at least) be adding support for new iOS SDK features such as ARC, so you may not be able to use it with technologies such as that.

Regarding load for the Web Service - there's not a huge amount of work done by the server; mostly just serializing the data into a format that can be passed over the HTTP connection. Each connection is entirely stateless, so if necessary you can always scale out using a load balancer if you're expecting very high load.

Hope that helps,
Rob

What if we have started a project using the trial versions and need to get a license?? It seems a bit unprofessional to just yank the store offline... At least you should offer the source licenses for a discount or something so those of us who want to continue with it can... specifically the SlideNav and GridView.

I understand you are going in a different direction but at least let us buy discounted source licenses with no support, or just open-source the code... but don't leave us in the position of having to rewrite a product under development.

Hi Russ,

Can you drop us an email at info@mobilefoo.com with the email address you used when you downloaded the trial version of the SDK, and we'll sort something out for you?

Thanks,
Rob
